Step 5 - Moving out of the Apartment
Once you give the apartment proper notice that you are moving out, (30 or 60 day written notice), you will be need to get the apartment ready for your move out date.

- Clean the apartment – Please clean the apartment and remove all rubbish.  Remember how clean the apartment was when you moved in? You should try to get it back to the same condition. This means cleaning items such as the stove, refrigerator and even the bath tub and toilet. If the apartment staff has to clean these items, they will deduct the cost to do so from your security deposit.

-Remove all furniture. If you are not taking your furniture with you, do not leave it behind in the
apartment. The apartment can charge you for removing the furniture. If you can not sell the furniture, please consider calling Goodwill, Salvation Army or any other Chartible Organization that usually will remove the furniture for free.

- Set up an time for an inspection – A  mistake that many renters make is not setting an
appointment to do a move out inspection. Once you are totally out of the apartment, have someone
from the apartment do the "Move out Inspection" with you. This will help make sure that you are not
charged for damages to the apartment that you were not responsible for. You and the apartment should have a copy of the "Move in Inspection Sheet" that you filled out when you moved in.

- Leave the keys. Keys mean possession. Please return the keys to the apartment staff when you
move out. If you fail to do so, the apartment staff will not know that you have physically moved out
and can continue to charge you for rent.

- Leave a forwarding address . If you have a security deposit due, the staff will need to know where to send the check.
